| In March
2000, Kaleidoscope was invited to tender for a contract
to manage a 24 place After School Club at Park Grove School,
York, which is the Primary School closest to our City
site. A committee of parents of children at the school
was constituted in April 2000 with the aim of setting
up and overseeing the running of the club. Following a
detailed tendering process, Kaleidoscope was selected
to manage the club. Because the Club would be set up and
run in its first year with the aid of a New Opportunities
Fund grant, there should be no profit in its first year
of operation. However, if the parent committee was satisfied
with the quality of service offered by Kaleidoscope, the
club would be handed over fully by the end of the first
year. Since Kaleidoscope's City nursery can only offer
care for up to 5 year olds, this was seen as an excellent
opportunity for us to offer Out of School provision at
all our sites.
Kaleidoscope Park Grove KOOSH opened in January 2001
for 4-11 year olds and was 85% full by July 2001. At
the end of December 2001, the Club was handed over fully
to Kaleidoscope and was 95% occupied by January 2002.
The breakfast club opened in September 2002 and in March
2003 the club extended to offer 40 places. The acquisition
of the nearby Acorn Nursery
School in April 2003 means that Park Grove children
can enjoy a Kaleidoscope holiday club too.
This club is registered with Ofsted and is housed in
a large, bright and spacious classroom within the school.
Park Grove KOOSH has excellent resources and benefits
from use of the school gymnasium and outdoor play areas.
We are situated within walking distance of the City
centre and have easy access from York's inner and outer
ring roads but most of our customers are picked up directly
from the classrooms of Park Grove School.
Our Staff
We select our staff carefully to ensure that we provide
a good range of age and experience. We value them as
playworkers and want them to enjoy coming to work as
this will ensure a happy atmosphere - so essential if
your child is to enjoy their club. All our staff are
offered regular training to update and extend their
skills and knowledge.
Food and Drink
We provide milk and cereals or toast at our breakfast
club and a substantial tea cooked by our chef in the
afternoon. Children attending Acorn holiday KOOSH for
a full day bring a packed lunch.
